Traveling For Change

Allison and Teuvo

The day has arrived. We are going out on the road with the full support of our community to share the good news about the revelation and connect with our brothers and sisters in truth.

Evangelism is not a bad word to me. Evangelism also is not linear. It’s not as simple as handing someone a book. Evangelism for The Urantia Book is a commitment to living your ideals in daily life with everyone you meet.  Outreach has many directions and dynamics, which is what makes it so fun and rewarding.

To think that you are going to be well received by everyone you meet just because you have a smile on is foolish. In turn thinking that no one wants to have conversations about higher truths is just as ridiculous. People are unique and so should be your approach to them. No matter their reception of your message let us not forget:

“And everywhere you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand,’ and minister to all who may be sick in either mind or body. Freely you have received of the good things of the kingdom; freely give. If the people of any city receive you, they shall find an abundant entrance into the Father’s kingdom; but if the people of any city refuse to receive this gospel, still shall you proclaim your message as you depart from that unbelieving community, saying, even as you leave, to those who reject your teaching: ‘Notwithstanding you reject the truth, it remains that the kingdom of God has come near you.’  – Jesus 16

So when we pull up at a gas station should we walk up to the clerk and say, “Hello how are you? Are you aware that the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”? No that’s just funny. What we must do, though, is pay attention to people on a level most of us don’t practice in our daily lives. We will be literally looking for people who are in need or possibly ready to discover more about what is available from the universe.

As we visit coffee shops, downtowns, and libraries, we will be using modern methods of marketing by leaving posters, stickers, bookmarks, and cards. When we are blessed with the opportunity to converse with one of our brothers or sisters, we will proclaim with great pride the news of this truth and the purpose it has instilled in our lives. And as they witness that very proclamation and commitment happening in real time they will surely be inspired. It is through our honesty that we win the attention of their spirit.

More details of the trip will be announced very soon. Our goal as we travel all over this country, the home of the revelation, is to inspire our fellow readers to the possibilities that are now available, while we also spread the news to anyone who may cross our paths that the revelation is here. Jesus’ whole life purpose was to teach us how to do just this. The Master enjoined us to proclaim the gospel with a full heart. Many of us have a growing desire to perfect through practice, this ability. It can be difficult at times to communicate our message in our current culture. The tour will provide, not just the participants, but for all of us, ample opportunities to discover anew how we may share these life giving truths the world longs to hear.

As the UB reminds us, “As the days pass, every true believer becomes more skillful in alluring his fellows into the love of eternal truth. Are you more resourceful in revealing goodness to humanity today than you were yesterday? Are you a better righteousness recommender this year than you were last year? Are you becoming increasingly artistic in your technique of leading hungry souls into the spiritual kingdom?” 156:5.15

My call is not that we must all travel and do evangelism, but that we must WORK together! If you go days and weeks and months without doing something about this living truth in your community, then it’s time for change. The revelation calls each of us to be a force for good on this planet. That means you must get outside your comfort zone. You must be ready to accept what the religion of Jesus will do to you and with you, even if it means transformation.

I’m honored to be one of the travelers picked for this adventure. Sometimes I write these posts feeling like I’m talking to a very small audience, which is fine because of my absolute faith in the bigger picture, but when opportunities like this arise I realize it’s all worth it. Being so strongly invested in this truth and trying to fearlessly walk the path Jesus has laid before me is rewarding beyond explanation. At the same time I’m daily challenged to prove my commitment to these ideals. That is what anyone can expect from doing this work.

See you on the road!

Allison Zopel will be doing her book release tour along the way.

Allison is a professional musician who spent five years coming out of a coma with brain injuries. Blessed to return to life, her new book The Angel Inside: A Young Woman’s Healing Journey Through Coma and Brain Injury provides a multi-sensory description of what it was like to be in a coma, from the inside looking out, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Allison shares her path to healing using natural methods, her relationship as it evolved with God while in the coma, and how caregivers can be of better assistance to people in need of care. Through inspired illustrations, poetry, drawings, and journal entries to God, Allison makes her way through a remarkable journey and returns to life to help others who may feel trapped inside and voiceless.

Allison recently launched the non-profit, The Return to Life Foundation, dedicated to helping people who are recovering from coma and traumatic brain injury. All of the proceeds of the book will be donated to The Return to Life Foundation. The Angel Inside is now available in full color at: http://www.thereturntolifefoundation.org, as well as on Kindle and in a black and white edition on Amazon.com.
The healing music Allison composed while in the coma is available at: http://www.musicfromwithin.com.

Congratulations again to a wonderful team and their upcoming tour!

    1. To Andrea Barnes. In 1984 or 85, were you involved in the Sacramento Urantia Book study group? I believe we met a few times way back when, but I doubt you’d remember me.
