IC’11 In Salt Lake City

HOLY BAJESUS!!!! What a week of inspiring, life-changing events that will forever shape the culture of our movement. With the Youth & Young Adults being the focus of the conference and leading over 12 workshops I think we showed what’s possible for the future of our community. From the opening night dance, which we rocked out, to the finishing plenary, filled with incredible music and truly inspiring sharing, this conference was one to be remembered.

What I took away from Salt Lake was the sense of community, and not just because I had 40 new Facebook friends after I left, but more because I felt so connected and in tune with my peers. Many events took place that sounded a change in the culture of our Urantia community. First thing being that we now have a Youth & Young Adults Committee that is focusing on and fostering the young adults in our movement. Another is the interest in the UB we saw from the Truthseekers after we returned from Snow Bird. Never before had I felt such a genuine level of intrigue from the young people at a conference. It was very clear that the years of work we have been putting into the dissemination of the Urantia Book’s teachings are beginning to bear fruit.

So where do we go from here? The first thing we each must do as individuals is stay connected with each other through phone calls, Facebook, and email. At a conference and at Truthseekers we create a family of friends and gain a level of trust that seems to be unmatched in our regular lives. The only way to keep this connection alive is to stay in touch and support each other in any way we can. So give that someone a call to say hi, or send them a picture or message on Facebook. Anything you do to reach out and let them know you’re thinking about them means a lot and shows that the community we are growing is real and doesn’t just exist when we are together at a conference.

As we go forward this next year we have so many projects for which we need support. This website URANTIANOW.COM is always in need of contributors and volunteers to help its promotion. Please contact us if you have the desire to serve on our Media Arts Team. We also will be starting our College Outreach Initiative, which means we will be needing volunteers to man booths at colleges all over the country. You show up and we will take care of the rest. In preparation there will be a short training program offered via Skype.

It feels to me that this generation is stepping up to the plate to fill the hole that has been left by inactivity. Our only hope is that our mentors will hear our call and stand with us hand in hand as we tackle this revelation, our lives, and our world. Above all we are developing a loving and supportive community that is free from petty grievances and fear. This generation does not understand or care about the divisions that have been developed by our elders. We have the URANTIA BOOK! Its message is clear is crystal:

196:1.3 To “follow Jesus” means to personally share his religious faith and to enter into the spirit of the Master’s life of unselfish service for man.

188:5.10 When thinking men and women look upon Jesus as he offers up his life on the cross, they will hardly again permit themselves to complain at even the severest hardships of life, much less at petty harassments and their many purely fictitious grievances. His life was so glorious and his death so triumphant that we are all enticed to a willingness to share both.

It goes without saying that IC’11 was an amazing success. We had great response to all our youth-run workshops and forged relationships with each other that will last a lifetime. Now our mission is to take this inspiration and forge it into service to our fellows. Start with yourself, then your family, and of course your community. We can each do something every day to foster the coming of this new way of life we have created in our Urantia Family. A way of life that is selfless and dedicated to service, not focused on our own material success. A way of life that allows those who don’t know God come to know him because they know us!! This is our commitment.

Thank you!!

156:5.14 Spiritual living mightily increases true self-respect. But self-respect is not self-admiration. Self-respect is always co-ordinate with the love and service of one’s fellows. It is not possible to respect yourself more than you love your neighbor; the one is the measure of the capacity for the other.

  3. Good work, Tuevo!
The young folks made a significant contribution to IC11. You should all be very proud of the fruits of your efforts. I love your expressed desire “to enter into the spirit of the Master’s life of unselfish service for man.” And you can surely inspire all of us with with your mission:

“…to take this inspiration and forge it into service to our fellows. Start with yourself, then your family, and of course your community… When we live in such a way that those who don’t know God come to know him because they know us!! This is our commitment.”
You’re on your way! Transformed people will transform the world. Keep up the good work!

I attended several workshops for the youth and look forward to working with the YaYAs. I’m excited about the idea of getting a presence on Sam Houston State University. I know with the YaYAs this will become an actuality.

    Great conference. Great youth representation.

    You rock!!

  5. Dear Teuvo,

Youth and Young Adults are welcome in Minnesota any time. We have St. John’s and St. Ben’s where there are more monks than anywhere in the United States, with an awesome house of Prayer and retreat center for 18. There is also the Mississippi River, canoeing, exploring the Beaver Islands and the land of 1000 Lakes.

I’m honored to be involved in common efforts. This is a great site! I’ll try to post some content as time allows. As I said in my plenary talk: Go YaYA!!!!!

    lotsa love,
    John Creger

P.S. My daughter will be helping me launch a new site for the Personal Creed Project in the fall. It would be awesome if you could take a look and bounce back any feedback.
